How I got
involved with the 1-800 Call Free business in Thailand.
Back in the late 1990's I was involved in a surfing school on
famous Cavill Mall, Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast Australia. Directly
across the road, right on the beach was an opposition surfing
school run by an Ex World Surfing Champion, and current biggest
wave ever ridden hero. Due to status and association with the
local surf life saving club, with prominent signage exalting "World

Now, here I am, just across the road at my surfing
school. In a registered and leased small shop. Nothing allowed
on the public areas due to enforced council rules. I was totally
outgunned in visual and position aspect. I have to think what
to do and then "BAM"..
This operator across the road sticks up a discount sign, undercuts
my price by $10, runs all over town and cuts the price at the
backpackers hostels and tour desks.

I'm in trouble. How can I compete????
Now, here's what happened to make my surfing school
the premier, most expensive, most students, most referred, most
remembered, most profitable, surfing center on the entire East
Coast of Australia.
I brought in a partner. He had surfing instructor
qualifications but totally unknown in surfing circles. He did
own the phone number

The wait was long but finally the new edition of
the Gold Coast and Brisbane Yellow Pages were released with our

787337) and we rocketed to the top, employed more instructors,
tripled our equipment. Our rental business doubled. Travel and
tour agents contacted us.
What was our business name????? It doesn't matter
as everyone that called or walked up asked for 1-800 SURFER. Memorable
